Welcome! If you’ve landed here then you’re probably a kayaker or looking to get into the sport. So what’s this website all about? Great Kayak Gear is a kayaking site with a lot in the works. We’ve been online now for about a year and a half and we’re looking forward to many more to come. Whether you’re into recreational outings, sea kayaking, touring trips, whitewater or angling there is (or will be) something to see or read here. If it’s not here now, come back later – as things progress you’ll find more and more good stuff here.
At Great Kayak Gear we are avid kayakers who spend all our free time on the water. Our aim is to be another good kayaking resource online. We don’t want to be your only resource and we always encourage paddlers to check with many reliable sources, that’s just common sense. You’ll find some listed in the links and others can be found by browsing.
What’s happening online this summer? We’re still building many of our important sections but there is a lot right now to read, to watch or to browse through. We have photos, videos, quick info, a kayak guide, a library and gear for sale. Product and school reviews are planned and in the works. For more about GKG read our introductory post.
Our News page will keep you informed about developments here with brief updates now and again. Our photo gallery has some great kayaking and water landscape shots with more to come this summer. The Extreme Kayaking /Paddle Board Fishing Tournament that took place on Sept 15th in Pompano Beach, FL was a successful and popular event and Great Kayak Gear was proud to be one of the sponsors. We’ll have news on their next event in the near future.

There are some excellent books on kayak touring, skills, whitewater paddling, kayak fishing and more – perfect for reading on the dock in the evenings after paddling. The video section has expanded and we now have over 125 videos for hours and hours of great viewing. Most of the new videos added are in one of the KAYAK FISHING sections.
The Gear Store will be undergoing some changes later this summer to improve certain features and ease of browsing but it’ll continue to be functional during the updating. As of right now our new homepage features will be taking precedence but as soon as they’re done we’ll be spending our time in the Gear Store.

WHY SHOP THE GREAT KAYAK GEAR STORE? Because it’s a great place to compare products from a whole bunch of different retailers in one place. Instead of having to visit 5 or 10 different websites you can find all the products listed here on one page. At a glance you can see the different brands and prices. And we’re not a search engine – we don’t send you all over the web as the products are right in our store.
Our store carries over 28 000 items of kayaking gear and other stuff you might need while out kayaking or kayak camping from over 50 different retailers in the US. We have boats, paddles, pfds, deck bags, compasses, vhf radios and a ton of kayaking accessories.
Very soon we’ll have a good selection of camping equipment for kayak camping. Right now we have things such as sunscreen, polarized sunglasses (more than 1000), travel books, hacky sacks, tea, mold control products to protect your investments… anything you might possibly need while out kayaking or tending to your gear at home. We have a few gifts and collectibles with a kayaking theme and will be getting more in.
Some stats on the store: We have 90 sea kayaks from 11 retailers, 118 inflatable kayaks from 16 retailers, 81 whitewater kayaks from 5 retailers, 460 paddles from 22 retailers, 149 PFDs from 4 retailers, 189 sprayskirts from 8 retailers, 47 handheld VHF radios from 4 retailers.
